Building the Ravenel Bridge

After all the photos I took, I've tried to arrange them in some order based on various topics I found interesting.

And a reminder from T.S. Eliot (East Coker from the Four Quartets)

Old men ought to be explorers
Here and there does not matter
We must be still and still moving
Into another intensity
For a further union, a deeper communion

February 6, 2005:Joining the East Bay ramp with the Meeting Street Ramp

Some time between 10am Saturday and 8am Sunday, the last pair of girders were placed - thus closing the East Bay - Meeting St. gap.

The East Bay Ramp
east of East Bay looking north toward the main approach (left) and south (right). The forms for poring concrete over the nearer piers are complete.

Here is the placement of the last pair of girders - and one of the kissing cranes has disappeared

Here is the gap seen Friday morning

From the old bridge: In the foreground, you can see that PBC has started preparing the ramp surface for pouring the concrete.
